Kiss & Tell: Get Schooled! Welcome back to school kids! The ladies and gentlemen of Kiss & Tell could use a lesson or two on rare Jamaican dub and reggae classics. This month $mall ¢hange and Ivy Feraco will be teaching us through their vast musical knowledge. Our DJs will be staring off the night with a set of 7" vinyl dub rarities. As we settle into the night our new resident DJ Ivy will be playing some sexy disco and other classic party jams. Dress your back to school best: plaid, plaid, plaid! Delicious Jamaican food will be served. Battery Harris as an extensive menu with jerk chicken or tofu, patties, salads, and wings! Plenty of bike parking and free air to pump your wheelz.

About Battery Harris: Queens-born owners pay tribute to the Rockaways with the name—a nod to an abandoned beach bunker in Fort Tilden park—and shore-inspired decor, including colorful stained-wood interiors, a transparent geometric roof and a wraparound deck. Richard Gibbs (Caracas Arepa Bar) dispatches spiced plates like jerk chicken wings, jalapeño mac-and-cheese pie and roasted-corn-and-cabbage slaw tossed in a Scotch-bonnet vinaigrette. Rum-heavy tipples include the Double Impact (lemon, kumquat shrub, vanilla and orange-blossom water) and the Quest (lime, basil and Angostura bitters). $mall ¢hange (aka James Dier) will never stop. A musical addict, he’s been collecting and DJing for 20 years, has 10s of thousands of records, in every conceivable genre and time period. Seriously deep crates in funk, jazz, blues, soul, latin, reggae, dancehall, hip hop, house, breaks, jungle, booty bass, classics, rawk n’ roll, punk, vintage RnB, disco, downtempo, ambient, experimental, tropical bass…you get the picture. Some people say they’re eclectic–this homeslice lives it, with the skills to mix it all together. In terms of radio, $¢ has been involved with WFMU, the world reknown freeform station, for 15 years, did shows for East Village Radio for 3 years, been invovled with BMIR (Burning Man’s official station) for 8-9 years, plus guest sets on AOL’s dance station, Giant Step’s Jukebox, Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space show, WPS1 (PS1′s online station), KUCI in Irvine. Out in clubland $mall ¢hange has played in every conceivable downtown NYC/BK venue you can think of, swank, underground, big, small–but always funky. A short list includes Santos, Nublu, BLVD, Greenhouse, Commodore, Lit, Sutra, and places not around anymore like Bar XVI, Centro-Fly, and APT. $mall ¢hange was also the music director at APT for a year and a half, booking folks like Kenny Dope, Moodyman, DJ Premier, Quantic, J-Rocc, 9th Wonder, Stretch Armstrong, Rich Medina, etc.. He’s also played in LA/SF (Do-Over, Root Down, Funky Sole, Afro Funke, Afrolicious), Germany, France, England, Burning Man, Pex festival, Australia, Costa Rica and your mom’s basement. $mall ¢hange has been involved with the legendary Rubulad crew for over 15 years, demented underground BK loft par-tays that go into the wee wee hours. He also booked parties at Rubulad called ‘Remove Ya!’ which involved 15-20 DJs and live bands in 4 rooms, spinning everything under the sun. Like the scene in Rockers, its a musical takeover. He’s also thrown a party called ‘Lose Your Shit’ for 2 years with Jen Lyon of Mean Red Productions, booking folks like Rub n’ Tub, Cosmo Baker of the Rub, King Britt, Fort Knox 5, Trouble and Bass, etc, and has an ongoing dance focused party called ‘No Parking On the Dance Floor’. As for other loft parties he’s been featured at Danger, Winkle and Baltick, Gemini and Scorpio, Refuge, Bang On!, Greenhouse Gallery and others. Ivy Feraco (aka Unjust) is a native South Floridian who grew up with freestyle, bass, Kraftwerk and Cybotron on the radio. It was only a matter of time until she affiliated herself with the Miami-grown label Schematic and started playing and throwing parties to bring new music to the people. Eight years ago she transplanted to the LES, where she became involved in the techno community as an early Bunker resident and proved herself as a versatile dj. Above all, Ivy loves to bring different styles and beats into her sets to get the party started and a point across. |

Bethany Erskine is Kiss & Tell's beautiful disco encyclopedia from Mississippi. Ever since she emigrated to Brooklyn in 2007, Bethany has ruled the dancefloor at Kiss & Tell parties with her Southern charm and excellent taste. Even the deepest crate digging record nerds are regularly awed by her rare records and can be seen trainspotting her selections. Each month she delights us with her mix of raunchy electro, glamorous dark disco, and soulful street funk. Bethany has recently been moonlighting at The Bunker party with some very memorable opening sets of space disco and house. |

Kiss & Tell Hostess, Photographer: Seze Devres started Kiss & Tell as an extension of her raunchy knitting circle at Trash Bar on December 7, 2005. With a lot of help, support, and encouragement from her friends the party has become its own little monster. When she is is not dreaming up crazy themes and guests for Kiss & Tell she is a full time artist and designer. Seze's images and designs have graced dozens of galleries, record covers, posters, flyers, magazines, and web sites. She also co-hosts and photographs the guests of The Bunker, a world renowned weekly techno party in Brooklyn. |
