Kiss & Tell: Moonage Daydream Bossa Nova Civic Club Tommie Sunshine
This year I am celebrating my birthday with some fellow Capricorns in a mystical ride though our favorite 70s musical genres, disco and glam. The theme "Moonage Daydream" is in honor of the two Davids we have lost in 2016: David Bowie and David Mancuso. For this edition of Kiss & Tell expect to hear sci fi disco, space jams, interstellar dance classics, italo, glam rock and many tunes full of 70s sparkle. Since January 8th is David Bowie's birthday we will definitely be hearing many of his rare and popular hits. Midnight birthday toast for Ben, Lauren, Seze, Elvis Presley, and David Bowie! Diamond Dogs, you are welcome to dress to impress! |

James Friedman has turned down a lot of opportunities to make underground electronic music more than a passion project. In 2005, he opted to take a dayjob instead of relying on corporate gigs and fashion parties to make rent. In 2009 he ended his stint as a resident at Mister Saturday Night, which has become one of New York’s best known and most-beloved dance institutions. He voluntarily walked away from a busy touring schedule to devote his time to Throne of Blood Recordings, a label that is built to take no ownership of its artists’s music. Designed as a creative platform rather than a business, Throne of Blood has released original music and remixes from an insane who’s who of modern electronic music: The Rapture, Simian Mobile Disco, Zombi, Bicep, Prins Thomas, Tuff City Kids, Roman Fluegel, Daniel Avery, Andrew Weatherall, Call Super, Tim Goldsworthy, Naum Gabo, Waze & Odyssey,Red Axes, Chloe, Hieroglyphic Being, Kim Ann Foxman, Richard Norris, Ivan Smagghe, Scott Fraser, LA4A, Man Power, Steve Cobby & Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Volatire), Mark E, and many more. Though it’s never operated at a profit, Throne of Blood has connected a global community of musically adventurous misfits, and enabled Friedman to perform everywhere from Rex in Paris, Fabric and Secret Sundaze in London, and too many sweaty basement jams to count. Lauren Murada Gaining a love of disco on the dark dancefloors of Sydney's warehouse scene, Lauren Murada is an NYC transplant who couldn't leave her records behind. The dancer turned DJ has a love for oddball, leftfield jams that bring out ones inner freak under the discoball. Most weekends you can find her dancing at Good Room where she works as the local party starter. As well as DJing there, she's played around Brooklyn at Bizarre Disco Party and Guadalupe Inn. Always armed with a bag of wax, her all vinyl-sets are disco-laden with soul, funk, rock and italo records to keep that fire burning.
